Course Overview
This HR course teaches how to identify, investigate & address
performance problems.
The course
introduces participants to performance problems and how they affect
an organization. Participants learn how to determine the severity of
a performance problem, identify causes, approach employees who have
problems, conduct effective feedback sessions, explain the impact of
problematic behavior, address negative employee responses, and
respond to employee reactions. Course activities also cover
conducting an effective disciplinary meeting and determining whether
you have sufficient cause and evidence to discipline an employee,
and preparing for disciplinary action. Students will also learn how
to document and use information about an employee's performance, and
conduct a follow-up meeting with an employee.
Objectives
- Identify the types of
attendance, achievement and conduct problems, assess their impacts,
and determine a problem's severity.
- Identify causes for an
employee's performance problem by interviewing. Question an employee
regarding attendance issues, describe the factors affecting
achievement, and apply conduct investigation techniques.
- Prepare to conduct a
feedback session and encourage communication with the employee
during the session. Conduct a constructive feedback session with an
employee who has a performance problem.
- Communicate & prevent
the discrepancy between an employee's behavior and performance
standards, and identify the type of employee reaction and handle it
effectively.
- Keep a disciplinary
perspective, determine the cause for disciplining an employee, and
prepare for conducting a disciplinary meeting. Maintain a positive
rapport, avoid pitfalls during a disciplinary meeting with the
employee, and keep the meeting productive. Monitor employee
