Course Overview
This HR course teaches how to manage employee performance more effectively,
including identifying performance management and its common
pitfalls.
Learn
the basics of
creating a performance plan and the appraisal process. Participants
will learn how to conduct a performance-planning meeting, document
the performance plan, provide positive and constructive feedback,
coach employees during the appraisal period, appraise employee's
performance, conduct an appraisal discussion, and document an
appraisal. Course activities also cover communicating to performance
problems to employees, making performance improvements, conducting a
status meeting, and documenting ongoing communication. Students will
also learn how to respond to a defensive employee, resolve conflict
in an appraisal discussion, and understand the laws governing the
appraisal process to reduce the risk of legal challenge.

- Understand the
importance of creating a performance management plan and the steps
to establish the plan.
- Identify the steps to conduct an effective performance-planning
meeting, the process of providing feedback, and types of coaching
and document coaching and feedback efforts.
- Understand the performance appraisal process. Identify and gather
appraisal material. Prepare yourself for an appraisal discussion.
- Identify legal appraisals and responsibilities in relation to laws
enforced by the EEOC, risks of legal challenges, and the importance
of maintaining positive communication.
